NPP member Dr. Amoako Baah hints on forming a new political party New Patriotic Front NPF
Dr. Amoako Baah, a political scientist and prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced plans for the formation of a new political party called the New Patriotic Front (NPF). In an exclusive interview with TV3 on April 14, Dr. Baah explained that the creation of the NPF is necessary due to what he describes as the failure of the current NPP leadership. He accused the party’s leaders of corruption and incompetence, which he believes led to the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Baah stated, “We want to fix the party, but those involved in the wrongdoing are the ones in charge. Do you think they will willingly give you a chance to throw them out? No, they won’t. Leave the party for them and form a new one. The shortest way around this thing is to form a new party.” He urged NPP supporters to leave the current party and join the New Patriotic Front (NPF) when it is officially launched, emphasizing that the new party will represent the true ideals the NPP once stood for.
He was particularly critical of the NPP’s leadership, especially former President Nana Akufo-Addo, blaming him for the party’s poor performance and accusing him of arrogance and alienating party members, including Members of Parliament. Dr. Baah remarked, “If I were the chairman, I would have thrown him out of the party. Because no president should be given any power to do such a thing. Campaign against your own party members...does the party belong to him?”
This signals a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, as he encourages disillusioned NPP members to rally behind the new party, which he believes will restore the values and integrity that the NPP has lost in recent years.
