Kennedey Agyapong picks number 1 on ballot for flagbearer race
Honorable Kennedy Agyapong Contender for the New Patriotic Party Flagbearer race
Ghanaian politician and businessman who represents Assin Central in parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and 1 of the 10 declared candidates for the NPP presidential primary, which will be held on 4 November 2023 has picked spot 1 on the ballot paper for the upcoming election, during their balloting .
Kennedy Agyapong is hoping to succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who is term-limited and cannot run for a third term.
Kennedy Agyapong was born on 16 June 1960 in Assin Dompim, Central Region of Ghana. He had his secondary education at Adisadel College in Cape Coast and later studied at Fordham University in New York, USA. He is a businessman, director of Assin Farms, Supercare Group of Companies and Hollywood Shopping Centre. He is married with 22 children
He entered politics in 2000, when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Assin North. He retained his seat in the 2004 and 2008 parliamentary elections. In 2012, he was elected in the new seat of Assin Central and was re-elected in 2016 and 2020.
He is currently the Chairman of the Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee
He is known for his outspokenness and controversial statements on various national issues. He has been a vocal critic of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, former President John Mahama. He has also accused some members of his own party of corruption and sabotage. He has vowed to expose and fight against any wrongdoing in government
He has also been a generous philanthropist, donating to various causes and institutions, especially in his constituency. He has supported education, health, sports, security and infrastructure development projects. He has also sponsored many students to pursue higher education both locally and abroad
He has expressed his vision to transform Ghana into a prosperous and developed nation, if he becomes the president. He has promised to create more jobs, improve the economy, fight corruption, enhance security, promote agriculture, industrialize the country, and empower the youth and women.
He has also pledged to continue the good works of President Akufo-Addo and implement the NPP manifesto
He has appealed to the delegates and supporters of the NPP to vote for him as the flagbearer, saying he is the best candidate to lead the party to victory in the 2024 general election. He has also called for unity and peace within the party and among all Ghanaians
