John Dumelo Issues Apology to Hon. Lydia Alhassan
John Dumelo, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, recently issued a comprehensive apology for comments made against Lydia Alhassan during a live TV broadcast. Initially, Dumelo offered a brief apology for his 'bloody widow' remark, which had sparked criticism from the public, with some labeling him as uncivilized. Twelve hours later, he elaborated on his apology in a longer post on X, clarifying that his comments did not align with his personal values or beliefs.
In his official statement, Dumelo explained that his response was provoked by accusations from his opponent’s supporters, who falsely claimed he was responsible for his mother's death. Acknowledging his reaction was inappropriate, Dumelo extended sincere apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan, emphasizing that his remarks during the Media General public engagement did not reflect his true character.
During a TV3 community watch program, Dumelo expressed frustration over being mocked for using a state car, which led to his controversial comments about Lydia Alhassan. His remarks drew backlash on social media, particularly on X, where users criticized the actor-turned-politician.
The 'bloody widow' tag dates back to February 2019, when some Minority members protested Lydia Alhassan’s swearing-in, following the violence-marred Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election. Lydia Alhassan became a legislator after the passing of her husband, NPP MP Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko.
