In an interview during the inaugural ceremony of  President John Dramani Mahama, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, addressed the clergy's approach to political criticism, particularly concerning President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration. His remarks shed light on the evolving strategy of religious leaders in Ghana and their concerns about governance.

Apostle Nyamekye explained that the clergy has developed a new strategy aimed at fostering constructive dialogue with political leaders rather than engaging in public criticism. He emphasized that this approach is designed to provide counsel and support for governance, rather than confrontation. "Our goal is to encourage leaders to heed wise counsel for the betterment of our nation," he stated.

Despite their commitment to offering guidance, Nyamekye lamented that the Akufo-Addo administration has largely neglected the advice provided by religious leaders. He cited the controversial passage of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) as a significant example of this disregard. Many clergy members believed that the E-Levy was unnecessary and would lead to adverse consequences for the economy. "The decision to proceed with the E-Levy  contributed to the challenges faced by Akuffo Addo's NPP Iin the elections" he asserted.

Nyamekye's comments reflect a broader concern among religious leaders regarding accountability and governance in Ghana. He indicated that ignoring their counsel has had tangible repercussions for the party, suggesting that adherence to ethical advice could have steered the party toward more favorable outcomes. This sentiment resonates with many who believe that moral leadership is crucial for national progress.

Apostle Nyamekye reiterated that what Ghana truly needs is righteousness in leadership and governance. He called on political leaders to embody integrity and ethical standards, which he believes are essential for fostering trust and ensuring sustainable development in the country.Apostle Nyamekye's remarks highlight a significant shift in how religious leaders engage with political authorities in Ghana. By prioritizing counsel over public criticism, they aim to create a more collaborative atmosphere while expressing disappointment when their advice is overlooked. As Ghana navigates its current challenges, the call for moral leadership remains more pertinent than ever.
